Gary understands and brings valuable counsel to the challenges faced by non-profit agencies. In his career on the Kaua‘i County Council and as a State Senator, he has been an advocate of many of the causes embraced and served by non-profits.

He has been recognized for his championship of efforts to protect the environment and support grassroots initiatives. He has also started and run a publishing and real estate business on Kaua‘i and is well-acquainted therefore with the world of small business. Gary holds a degree in Public Administration from the University of Hawai‘i.
