Gary Hooser

Gary understands and brings valuable counsel to the challenges faced by nonprofit agencies. In his career on the Kaua‘i County Council and as a State Senator, he has been an advocate of many of the causes embraced and served by nonprofits. He is currently Majority Leader of the State Senate and has announced his candidacy for Lieutenant Governor in 2010.
He has been recognized for his championship of efforts to protect the environment and support grassroots initiatives that meet critical community needs. In the most recent 2008 legislative session, as Senate Majority Leader, he helped advance important legislation to ensure wider adoption of solar energy throughout the state.
His private sector experience includes starting and running a publishing and real estate business on Kaua‘i and he knows first hand the challenges that small businesses face in this state. Gary holds a degree in Public Administration from the University
of Hawai‘i.
